Believe it or not, many people out there think of environmentalists as belonging to an evil green movement of change.
After all, her majesty and none other than Sarah Palin, has actually blamed environmentalists for causing the Gulf oil spill. That’s right. According to her, it’s the green movements fault that she holds directly responsible for the catastrophe in the gulf.
She believes firmly that because environmentalists have lobbied successfully to keep oil companies from drilling close to shore, BP had to go way way way out in the Gulf to drill, baby, drill. And of course, in her mind, because BP had to go out deep to drill for oil due to all of the environmental safety regulations, that change in their drilling venue caused the Gulf oil spill catastrophe.
It’s obvious that the evil green movement of change is to blame.
Of course, she fails to mention that BP has the worst safety record of any oil company working the American shores, and she also fails to say that they have paid nearly $500 million in fines for safety violations. Another thing that Palin wouldn’t say was that the main reason for the oil spill was “gross negligence and willful misconduct” about the drilling practices and procedures from BP. Those claims are not hearsay. They are from an actual determination from Anadarko Petroleum, who owns one quarter of the oil rig that exploded. But I’m sure that Anadarko is making all this up because they are in cahoots with the evil green movement as well.
The crux of all this is that environmentalists are calling for change. The problem is, people do not like change. Every one of us, to some extent, gets set in our ways, and we like to do things in repetition, the same way every time, because it feels comfortable.
We have all been driving gasoline powered vehicles for so long that the habit has become comfortable. We have all used plastic bags and other plastic items seemingly forever so that it’s become comfortable. We can travel to any supermarket to buy food for us or our families, and it’s comfortable. And no one can deny any of this either.
But environmentalists want to change things. They want to make things better for us and the planet and they want to do things morally and ethically right, even if that means changing into a less comfortable lifestyle.
Getting off the fossil fuel bandwagon means no more oil spills, no more environmental destruction, no more addiction. Electric cars and alternative fuels like ethanol might not sound very comforting, but it is right, it is true and it would be a huge environmental success.
Through all of this, just remember, we are a nation built on change. Our forefathers wanted to be independent from Great Britain, so they fought and died for their freedom, all in the name of change. We all changed from horse and buggy days to the internal combustion engine, and even the ways and means of that change which got us technologically where we are today, were debated. The first people who dared drive cars were mocked by being told to, “Get a horse” when their cars broke down.
The Wright brothers were considered insane, or worse, for wanting to fly. It wasn’t possible, people assured them. After all, as they used to proselytize, if God wanted them to fly, he would have given them wings. Yet, the Wright brothers pressed on, and using their intelligence to create wings, they changed the world with them.
Change happens. It might not be the most comfortable thing to occur, and it may not always be welcome, but it is going to happen with you or without you. And Because Action speaks louder than words, I will be a part of this change, I will work for it, and I will welcome it.
So be prepared and get in line, because the evil green movement of change will be surely coming to a world near you.
